Your English-speaking local guide and driver meet you in the lobby of your Bangkok hotel.
You travel first to Bang Pa-In, home to the former royal summer palace. Its origins date back to the 17th century, and the estate is distinguished by an unusual combination of Eastern and Western architectural influences.
You then continue to Ayutthaya, once the capital of the Kingdom of Siam. Destroyed in 1767, the city retains an exceptional collection of ruins and religious monuments that still evoke its former importance. Its historic park forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your exploration begins at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, known for its impressive Reclining Buddha, constructed in brick and stucco. The site is dominated by a bell-shaped chedi set on a raised mound, reached by a series of steps.
You continue to Wat Mahathat, one of Ayutthaya’s most recognisable sites, where a Buddha head has become naturally entwined within the growing roots of a tree.
Next, visit Wiharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit, home to a monumental bronze Buddha image and an important expression of Thailand’s enduring Buddhist heritage.
The day concludes with Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal monastery, distinguished by its three aligned chedis, now among the defining silhouettes of Ayutthaya.
Lunch is included during the day, as specified in the programme.
At the end of the experience, your driver takes you back to your hotel in Bangkok.
