Itinerary

01

From Bangkok to the Banks of the River Kwai

  • Lunch

Bangkok → Kanchanaburi

From Bangkok to the Banks of the River Kwai

Your private guide and driver meet you directly in the lobby of your Bangkok hotel.

Leaving the capital behind, you travel towards Talad Rom Hub, one of Thailand’s most distinctive local markets.

Here, market stalls line the railway tracks themselves. As a train approaches, vendors swiftly draw back their awnings and move their produce aside, only to resume trading moments after it has passed.

Although the scene has become internationally renowned, the market remains first and foremost a lively glimpse into everyday local life.

Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing towards Kanchanaburi.

The River Kwai & Its History

Upon arrival, you visit the celebrated Bridge over the River Kwai, one of Kanchanaburi’s most recognisable landmarks.

The bridge formed part of the railway network built during the Second World War to connect Thailand with Burma, constructed under exceptionally harsh conditions.

Your visit continues at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, a peaceful memorial where thousands of Allied prisoners of war who lost their lives during the construction of the railway are laid to rest.

With the insight of your guide, you will gain a deeper understanding of this difficult chapter of history, approached with the respect and sensitivity it deserves.

By late afternoon, arrive at your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Hellfire Pass & the Turquoise Waters of Erawan

Meet your private guide and driver at the hotel for a day combining historical remembrance with some of western Thailand’s most beautiful natural scenery.

Hellfire Pass – Walking Through History

Your first stop is the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre, dedicated to preserving the history of the railway built through this region during the Second World War.

The centre recounts the experiences of Allied prisoners of war and the many Asian labourers who endured extremely harsh conditions while constructing this strategic railway line.

For those who wish, the visit continues on foot along the trail below the centre.

Walking through sections of the cutting carved directly through the rock offers a powerful perspective on both the scale of the construction and the human hardship associated with it.

This part of the journey is intentionally contemplative, allowing time to appreciate the history of Kanchanaburi with context and respect.

You then continue to a local restaurant for lunch.

Erawan National Park – Jungle & Waterfalls

The atmosphere changes completely as you make your way into Erawan National Park, one of Thailand’s most celebrated natural landscapes.

Hidden within dense tropical vegetation, a succession of waterfalls and natural pools unfolds in varying shades of turquoise.

Accompanied by your guide, follow the forest trails beside the water as you discover the different levels of the Erawan Falls.

Depending on your pace and local conditions, there will be time to pause by the pools and, when permitted, swim in their clear and refreshing waters.

It is a striking contrast to the morning’s historical discoveries and an opportunity to experience the region’s natural beauty at a slower rhythm.

Return to Kanchanaburi later in the afternoon, followed by an evening at leisure at your hotel.

Kanchanaburi → Bangkok

Along Kanchanaburi’s Historic Railway

For your final morning, your guide and driver accompany you to the railway station.

Board a local train for a memorable journey along one of the most dramatic sections of Kanchanaburi’s historic railway.

The train travels slowly between forested hillsides, river scenery and sections of track built along the cliffside on remarkable wooden structures.

Beyond the beauty of the landscape, the journey allows you to place the history discovered over the previous two days within its original geographical setting.

At the end of the train journey, your private driver will be waiting to accompany you back to Bangkok.

Arrival in the capital marks the end of your experience.
